As of Wednesday, April 15 2020, the push for recreational pot by Missourians for a New Approach was suspended due to coronavirus concerns. Getting recreational marijuana on the ballot requires petitioning and signatures. Petitioning and Signatures that simply would not have been gotten considering there is nowhere to gather these signatures. However, medical marijuana should still be on track for becoming available in dispensaries in Summer of 2020.
One of the things about social distancing and stay-at-home orders is that it makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to do many simple things, such as interact with another person for a few minutes with the objective of gathering petition signatures. With that in mind, it just wasn’t foreseeable that the 170,000 signatures would be gathered in a reasonable amount of time.
Luckily, medical marijuana facilities were granted their licenses right before the Corona pandemic happened. Being deemed essential, they are able to continue with their preparations for opening this Summer. 300+ marijuana related business licenses were awarded, so you can be sure that we will see good things ahead this year, despite recreational marijuana not being on the 2020 ballot.
